Democrats Want What You've Got

The “Beverly Hillbillies” had a classic episode with Granny keeping the “revenuers” at bay with her shotgun, those Internal Revenue Service (IRS) city boys that were going to swoop in and put the kibosh on her moonshinin’.

“Varmints!” she hollered, chasing the tax man off the property with buckshot. The revenuer headed straight for the bank to make his inquiries, specifically asking where Uncle Jed got his money. The bank freely told him, but it’s not supposed to work that way.

Sure, that was just a TV show. But in real life, that’s what Democrats would do given the opportunity. The deepest of ironies is that Democrats who demand access to your finances and more of your revenue can’t agree to let government operate on what they already have.

In short, Democrats will weaponize the IRS to get more of your money, then shut down the government with demands to spend more of your money. Make that make sense. You can’t.

In 2021, with control of the House, Senate and Autopen, Democrat leadership proposed the greatest invasion of financial privacy ever conceived. The Democrat bank surveillance plan would have required every bank in the U.S. to provide complete reporting on every personal or business account with a gross flow of just $600! The plan failed, but don’t think they’ve let it all go.

Liberal hack and former MSNBC host Joy Reid recently cried racism (again), warning that Republicans want to go back to a time when: "There were no regulations on business. You could earn as much money as you want, leave 100% of it to your children with no taxes. That's the world they want back." 

Well, sign me up for that!

The left will weaponize the IRS, invade your financial privacy, demand more of your income, and shut down government, all because the left believes that government is the solution to all things, NOT the private sector. Ergo, the left needs more of your money so the government can do more of the things that the left believes it should do. And if you won’t give it to them, they will take it by force, and throw a government shutdown fit in the process.

In 2011, Eagle Forum’s Becky Gerritson, an Alabama citizen, applied for 501 (c) (3) status with the IRS for the Wetumpka Tea Party. It was denied when Obama IRS bureaucrat Lois Lerner chose to use her office for partisan reasons. The IRS also wanted more invasive information about Gerritson’s group’s donors and communications. More recently, Bunni Pounds, president of a non-profit called Christians Engaged, was denied non-profit status because, in the words of the IRS, “Bible teachings are typically affiliated with the [Republican] party,” and therefore her group was considered partisan. Combine this heavy-handed intimidation with the Democrat-led plan to bolster IRS ranks with 87,000 new revenuers!

What would Democrats do if they got everything they wanted? What if they could access your personal data without due process, when they want, from whomever they want, without protections or even your knowledge? Their history of heavy-handed financial invasiveness indicates Americans would face unprecedented levels of bureaucratic nightmares.

• Democrats don’t like the look of legal deposits in your account … I’m sorry we’re going to have to audit your whole life.

• Democrats don’t like the political stance of your business … I’m sorry, you appear to be in jeopardy of losing your business license for partisan activities.

• Buy too many gun supplies … scrutiny.

• Did you donate to certain disfavored charities? Let’s investigate those charities while we’re at it.

Meanwhile, the tax dollars that we already sent to D.C. are bound up in a political stunt called a government shutdown. The Democrats couldn’t get what they wanted. Their bank surveillance plan failed. Their attempt to shut down conservative non-profit groups failed. Their efforts to grow the ranks of their collection agents failed. The only thing left to do was throw a fit and shut down the government.

Democrats couldn’t get their way even when they were in charge so the path of least resistance is now just simple obstruction. In an effort to fund Medicaid for the tens of millions of illegal immigrants, Democrat leaders are now shutting down government trying to repeal past legislative provisions that put a stop to it. It’s true, and we have the receipts. The Democrats' own spending resolution would have upfunded National Public Radio and the Public Broadcasting System. Meanwhile, Republicans have asked for level funding with a clean continuing resolution in order to finalize regular order budgeting.

Given the history of abuse, overreach and intimidation that Democrats have used in relation to IRS activities, why should we believe their side of the story on the government shutdown? Recent polling indicates America is not buying what Democrats are selling.

Good people who work hard, pay their taxes, and do everything right can’t even get the benefit of their existing government services or their paychecks. All because Democrats want more of our dollars. It’s madness, yet we are the ones forced to feel the brunt of it. The bottom line is that the left is determined to get more of what you’ve got, and the end justifies their means.

Look out folks … here come the revenuers!
