Michael "Butters" Wildman
Digital Coordinator
Butters focuses on all things digital. He has a background in communications strategies and using technologies to do cool things from websites to social media to military radar and communications jamming. A SC native, Michael commissioned into the US Navy from Auburn NROTC spending 20 years on combined active and reserve status as a Naval Flight Officer retiring as a Lieutenant Commander (Major for you Army guys). His varied military and civilian experience took him down the road of learning how to use websites, social media, YouTube, email newsletters, etc to reach people if you're a business, politician or non-profit.
Always conservatively minded, Butters brings a varied background to Rightside both on and off air.
Military background for those that care:
- Naval Flight Officer in EA-6B Prowlers flying with VAQ-142 deploying to Japan, Afghanistan and Iraq.
- Electronic Warfare Officer for CSG-2 on the USS George HW Bush deploying to the Middle East.
- Deployed as a Reservist to augment the AFCENT staff in Qatar coordinating air operations against ISIS.
- Reserve years spent at Missile Space Intelligence Center on Red Stone Arsenal in Huntsville, AL and as an Air Operations Expert for the 3rd Fleet staff out of San Diego, CA mostly focused on Coalition and Joint integration of Military Air Operations.
- Awarded numerous personal and unit level awards including a few Air Medals for combat operations. Aside from multiple combat deployments, participated in numerous large force exercises including Red Flag, USAF Weapon's School Exercises, Carrier Strike Group workup cycle, RIMPAC, PANAMAX and many more.
- Yes, Butters is the call sign bestowed upon him by war fighters of VAQ-142.
