Modern Game Development: For better or way, way worse

Assassins Creed: Shadows is the perfect tool for understanding just how much leftist ideology has infiltrated every facet of society.
There is going to be a day where I no longer have to speak about this game. Today is not that day.
However, for as many times as I have talked about this game and all the boneheaded decisions the developer Ubisoft has made, they keep giving me more and more reasons to support my theory about the impact of this game:
From a cultural standpoint, this may be the most important game of the last decade.
As a brief reminder of things I have discussed on Right Click in the past, this game set in Feudal Japan had pre-release announcements that included the rewriting of the history of Yasuke, a black slave who served Oda Nobunaga, the improper representation of Japanese seasons, tatami mats, and even used the famous broken Torii gate that stands as a symbol from the bombing in World War 2. All of these things are deeply important when you consider the fact that, as a franchise, Assassins Creed has always been based around historical events and locations and done so in a way to bring a fictional story overtop of those past events/cultures in a way that does not dishonor them.
Now, here we are with the game having been released on March 20, 2025 and somehow the things that are in the game are even worse than what we saw in pre-release content.
As you may know by now, this has become an international event because the Japanese government has gotten involved to speak out about the game. One major reason for that is that, for the first time in Assassins Creed history, they developed the game where you can destroy sacred religious sites. In every single previous game, religious sites, shrines, churches, etc., all were created with development assets that could not be moved or destroyed. In fact, the only level of interaction that I recall was that in certain temples in Assassins Creed: Odyssey you could steal offerings, but the game made it very clear that if you did, it would count as “stealing” and the town would turn against you and start attacking you and would send mercenaries after you. That is much different than openly being able to desecrate a shrine. Due to this, the prime minister of Japan, Shigeru Ishiba, has spoken out against the game and has called the Japanese Parliament to action to combat this game. Below is a post on X.com that summarizes the concerns the Pariliament is raising:
As you can see, it is much more than what we saw in pre-release content.
Everyone has talked about the big ticket item that is the rewriting of the historical record of Yasuke, but somehow, Ubisoft took it several steps further. They have made this made openly bisexual and even has “intimate” interactions with an openly non-binary individual who makes sure to let the player know to use “they/them” pronouns.
Yet, somehow, between the enforcement of gender ideology and the desecration of religious sites, Yasuke’s offense to the Japanese people go even further.
Thanks to Ubisoft and their so-called “character development” of a man who actually existed, the Japanese government has had to speak out about how people are reacting to this game all due to incompetence and disrespect by Ubisoft. What I mean is that because of the historical inaccuracies of this game being represented as truth, people are going out of their way to change historical documents and Wikipedia pages to reflect what is being shown in this game. This is what happens when your entire franchise has been based on historical accuracy and then you turn that on its face. It is especially important to note that at one point in this franchises history, they prided themselves on their games being accurate enough historically to be used as actual teaching tools and even had separate modes in the game that were created alongside historians to show a 3D playable outline of real historical events.
And for the big ticket item:
In Assassins Creed: Shadows, Yasuke sleeps with Oichi, the sister of Oda Nobunaga, his owner. You can see in the guide below from IGN that is a “romanceable” character.
This is a massive issue because the current emperor of Japan is a direct decendent of Oichi. Not only that, her lineage has 18 emperors throughout it as well as 5 other decedents that are alive today. No wonder the prime minister is furious.
Ubisoft has rewritten history and done so in a way that can only be described as malicious and hateful. Make no mistake, if they were to work on a United States based game, they would do the same thing to our history. This is the first time I have ever seen a game developer go so far as to degrade and diminish history with total disregard for those who would be affected by it.
Ubisoft is already on the verge of collapse which means it is on us to make a statement with our dollar in this industry, and all others, to ensure that companies like Ubisoft can never do this again and that they are held accountable. As it stands currently, the would have to sell ten million copies of this game to break even on development costs and sell well enough to save the company.
I have no desire to see good people out of jobs, but maybe Ubisofts time in the spotlight needs to be terminated.
